I stayed many years ago at Gouldings Lodge in Monument Valley, It was nice and clean with a great view. I was looking at the new lodge but the prices are outrageous and I was wondering if anyone had stayed at Gouldings lately and if they would recommend it, and does the new lodge block any of the view from Gouldings? Thank you for any help you can give

I'm sure Gouldings is a great place to stay. However, when we have been in the area we've always stayed at the south end of Monument Valley in Kayenta, Arizona. There is a nice Holiday Inn there. I think there are some other hotels as well. The Holiday Inn might be a bit cheaper.

I've never stayed at Gouldings, but last time I was in the area, I stayed in Bluff. There is a newer motel there that was quite nice, and relatively reasonable, though I don't remember the name. Never mind that, I just looked it up. It is the Desert Rose Inn. The rooms were nicely decorated and very clean. As for prices, they range from about $70 (off-season) to about $100 per night for a single/double room (in season). The most expensive accommodations they offered were the suites, at about $140 per night.

If staying in Bluff, remember the sidewalks get rolled up when the sun sets, so don't expect to go out on the town at night. About the only place we found open after sundown was the market/gas station/pizza joint.

Edit: Gouldings Lodge has something that can't be offered by the hotels/motels in Kayenta or Bluff - the view of Monument Valley.
