Looking to move this summer to Park City from the Northwest..... My husband and I are looking for any information we obtain about the city life, recreational opportunities, and season change that cannot be found in the typical chamber of commerce website.....IN OTHER WORD, WE NEED TO KNOW WHAT IT IS REALLY LIKE! MY husband will be working from home and I am currently a teacher and will pursue a similar venture. We love the outdoors and are always up for an adventure. Any information will be helpful (specifically, long term rentals..not apartment) Thanks

Hey NW-I lived in PC for about 16 years and recently moved down to the Salt Lake City area and I can tell you what it is really like....
The 4 seasons are great and especially beautiful-except that Spring-aka mud season-can last a long time. If you start to get yucked out up there during mud season, head to Moab or Mesquite and you will feel better.
Look at several of the property management outfits for long term rentals, the earlier in the season the better as July is prime time and prime money. The economy has finally caught up with Utah and prices are down but PC is still somewhat in demand and the prices will reflect that.
Do not plan on getting a job at the public schools-the PC district pays better than the rest of the state and has a waiting list for teaching positions. There was a big article in the last Wednesdays paper about PC education budget being cut by 2.5ish million and teachers will be on the cut list.
There are recreational activities galore during all 4 seasons and the 3 big ski areas are all right there.

All that being said,,I do not miss living up there one little bit. In my opinion, Park City lost its charm in the late 90's early 2000. More that 70% of the employees drive in so the traffic is pretty bad for a town with a population of 7200. More than 60% of the homes are not occupied on a year round basis-so not real great on feeling like a neighborhood. Unemployment is an issue in a small town that used to have underemployment..DM me if you have any other questions....

skibarbie is right. Park City has become just another bedroom community for Salt Lake. When we moved to Utah in 1990 - we dreamed that maybe, one day - we'd moved to PC.... not any more. It's lost its small town, rural feel.

Sorry to be cynical, but Park City lost it's charm in about 1975. Once upon a time it was a very cool old mining town with so much history and charm. Now, I think Eureka has more going for it.

Speaking of Eureka: you can get land there for a song and dance. Perhaps fix up an old miner's bungalow? It has a good blanket of snow in the winter. Very little traffic (at least in the Wasatch Front tradition). Quaint and charming. No resorts, but you can take up cross country skiing... just watch out for the mine shafts and ghosts! Perhaps it will be the next 'Park City'? Fifty years ago, they were very similar.

Okay... back to your regularly scheduled Park City discussion...
