We are coming from major suburbia, our town has grown from 50k to 120k in the 10 years that I've lived here. I have a feeling that Camas is going to be a big enough culture change for us. I'm more "small town" but hubby prefers being in the city.

Can you tell me a little more about Running Start, ...
Can I go with you to the TX Hill Country next winter for a sun escape?

Sounds like Camas might be best (or nearby).

Will be fun for kids and you, and very fast and EZ for DH commute.

Running Start
is FULL college credit (who needs HS credits if you finish HS with an AA?... tho you can get a HS diploma from Jr College if you think you need one to hang on your wall)

Running Start

The level of instruction and RS education was superb for my kids, and equipped them with lifelong skills, as well as free college (since they had to pay 100% of everything after age 12... = age of accountability in the SR household)).

You can join me in Columbia Gorge, Colorado, or Hill Country anytime. I keep CHEAP rural homes in each (<$100k). They are rented out, but have apartment / guest houses / cottages / and RV hook ups for me and my friends. I am only in Hill country for the 280 days / yr I would be miserable in PNW. I am in PNW during the 80 days / yr it is miserable in Hill Country, TEX. I can go back and forth for $87 each way.

Best thing I felt I did for my family... Traveling and living overseas and staying in Hospitality Guest homes ($10/ night worldwide). There are some really neat family hosts in Camas area. Come and visit and get the straight scoop from locals!

quite a few guest directories listed here, but not my favorites:
Hospitality exchange - Wikitravel

There is a profile of your host and accommodations. Since I am a farm kid... we stayed on farms so we could get up at 5AM to help with milking. My kids were not impressed, but they learned how people from many walks of life live necessary daily routines. It was a very good education for all. We really enjoy hosting foriegn travelers.

but... if my kids were grades 2&3 I would be moving them to Singapore or Malaysia for public school so they would learn a minimum of 3 languages. (worked extremely well for some of my friends... their kids got FREE USA Ivy League grad degrees and are now in great international jobs) all are $xxx, xxx salary at age 30. More importantly, they are happy, talented, disciplined and well adjusted kids / young adults / community leaders. (YMMV) Working overseas is NOT always fun for DH!!!, but mom and the kids have a blast!

I live in Camas, originally from California, i think it's a great place to raise kids, safe , quiet neighborhood with good school district. You can check Camas school district for scores. I really love sunshine california, but i can bear the rain in here, it's not like raining all day long, we do see some sunshine here and there throughout the winter season. And, I bet the cost of living is much lower than San diego.
