Hello, we are a family of 4, 2 young children, my partner is canadian (but hasn't leaved here for 8 years) will be certified to be french immersion teacher next year and I'm a french teacher from France so I should be able to work in private school.
We just mooved to Vancouver after 5 years in China so we aren't fully aware of the cost of living here. What we saw for the moment seems incredibly expensive: apartment, preschool... Initially our goal was to moove to Vancouver island (or maybe Nelson area if it's more afordable, that's an other story), we would like to live outside of the city not too fare from Sooke or Victoria.
So the questions are: what is the cost of living in this area, will it be a confortable situation for us?
How is life for teachers there?
And an other question (for me who comes from south of France!), is the weather bearable?
Thanks a lot for your help

I can answer a few of your questions. Vancouver Island, specifically Sooke or Victoria should be less expensive than Vancouver for sure.

Whether the weather is bearable is an individual thing - for me, not so much but I like sunny, dry weather. I have friends that love the weather there.

I can't help you with the teachers part as I am self employed and was when I loved there.

I live in Brentwood bay On vancouver island. From what I have seen (moved here from vancouver) the housing prices very. Cost of food is the same (but there is no variety) and everything is a bit of a drive away. There are lots of schools you can work at. I suggest Pacific christian school because they have french immersion.

Langford is your better choice for living and then driving out to work. I say this because the cost of rent is cheaper and you get more out of it. Food is same cost but you must have a car.

Weather is great, not too cold, not too hot and surrounded by ocean and lots of forests as well. Especially compared to van and alberta

Hope this helps,
