Suppose that Vancouver feels like some Chinese (probably coastal) city.

I understand that Vancouver may be similar in some aspects to one city while it could be similar in other respects to another city, in which case specificity both about the aspect and the city to which it is compared on that basis is well-appreciated.

Vancouver is not very similar to any Chinese cities I am familiar with. That said, if any, it'd be Hong Kong, in that it has a British colonial and capitalist history; is near mountains, ocean, and a border with people who speak the same language; has a developed economy and lifestyles; and there are many Canadians in Hong Kong (3% of HK's population) and many people from Hong Kong in Vancouver. But obviously they are very different, HK is WAY bigger, denser, hotter and is more economically diverse. Vancouver may be Pacific Rim and feel Chinese from the perspective of other Westerners, but it is not actually similar to China.

I agree with Bimbam. I've lived or worked in and around Vancouver and many other west coast cities for over 65 years and at no time has Vancouver ever struck me as being like any kind of Asian city, let alone any Chinese city. Vancouver is like any other typical North American west coast city.

Vancouver has a high number of people of Asian descent from many Asian countries who are integrated into the general North American western culture and lifestyle but those Asian folks have not changed or tried to change Vancouver to make it like any cities in any Asian countries. No more so than Vancouver's Poles, Germans, Italians, Phillipinos, Jamaicans, Russians, Egyptians, Mexicans or Colombians have made Vancouver to be like cities from those countries.
