I am planning to relocate to Vancouver within the next few years from Toronto and I plan on renting for a few years before finding a lower priced house to buy (I probably could afford a home up to about $450,000). Is it possible to rent a place for one person in a decent neighbourhood (such as westside Downtown, for example, or West Vancouver/North Vancouver). I am looking at a range between $600 to nothing more than $1200 to be acceptable.

Where should I start looking? Any helpful websites?

west van is really expensive and very upscale if you like the yuppie crowd it's great but I would check out Rent BC Rentals - Apartments and Houses for Rentals in Vancouver, Victoria, Burnaby, Kelowna, Coquitlam, Kamloops, Surrey, New Westminster, Abbotsford, Richmond to find places to rent anyways goodluck.

You can find a few places in North Vancouver, west or east of Lonsdale for about $900. Check out the North Shore News publication. NVan is a very large area and you can find 2bedrooms under $1000 if you know where to look. Try lower income apartments in the Blueridge/Deepcove and Northgate areas.

You can also snag a 1 bedroom for less than $900 in the Westend, in the heart of the city.
