I think it's not just meat cravings, but vegans in particular lose energy and become lethargic after a coupla years "honeymoon" period. However lacto-ovos don't seem to have that problem.

Even lacto-ovos can limit their diets too much. I'm astonished at the number of vegans I know who seriously think they can live on maybe 2 foods. I know one who is entirely subsisting on bananas and blueberries, and another who only eats oven fries and crudités.

I knew a vegan who only ate junk food because he didn't like vegetables much.

Took me 15 years...but I went back..my childhood was
filled with steaks...T-bones!
Took me years to recover breaking my vegetarianism with an omelet.
(Try not having any enzymes to digest animal protein and
then pass something that is similar to a rough piece of lava rock...
I thought a kidney fell outta me....bent over for days...)

I'll say this too. I remember an Anth my Bourdain show where he was eating vegetarian Indian food. He said Western vegetarians tried to hide the fact that they were eating just vegetables whereas Indian vegetarian cuisine was honest about this and simply came at the meal with the idea of making a meal without meat instead of trying to hide the fact that there was no meat there. I thought he had a good point on that.

Yeah, even committed v*gans act as if going without meat were a deprivation. Wait, honey, let's put some fake meat on the plate and hope nobody notices it's made of wheat gluten...
