Anybody have a tried & true recipe for Cranberry & Chutney Sauce? I saw a pic of it on a blog, but can't find the recipe for it!?!?!! I had it years ago, and when I saw this pic, my mouth started watering! I decided it's my contribution to Thanksgiving (aka "Festivus") this year ~
If you are making the dinner, you could go totally non-traditional. Just make the meal special with some great dishes you wouldn't make daily. One friend use to make pumpkin ravioli, which sounds yummy!
^We're going to be making pumpkin ravioli tomorrow. The filling is going to be pumpkin, red pepper, basil (maybe), a few spices, and some mozzarella (vegans can leave this out). I am way looking foward to this.

last thanksgiving i had my whole family come to visit (my family's from new england, my sister lives in philly, my brother lives in old england, and i live in pittsburgh) and i made roasted tempeh paella, mashed potatoes & parsnips, mashed yams with brown sugar, balsamic-marinated beets, broccoli with roasted red peppers, and swiss chard with olives. most of the recipes came from the voluptuous vegan cookbook. i think the paella is going to become a tradition. my dad also made a butternut squash soup with roasted chestnuts. we also had a tofurkey and cranberry sauce (trader joe's cranberry orange sauce) cause my husband needs tofurkey to make it thanksgiving.
as far as turkey analogs go, tofurkey and field roast are both vegan and pretty good.
to me, the point of thanksgiving is mostly just to make a whole load of food that people like. what exactly it is is flexible.
Along the lines of Thanksgiving, am I the only one who gets grossed out by looking at the ones shaped like the dead animal they are supposed to replace?
We have everything but the turkey. Mushroom gravy made with vegetable stock. Watch out for stuffing made with chicken stock.
How can you eat ANY commercial stuffing? They're usually made with bread, which has eggs in it, right? I was going to try to make some kind of grain and mushroom based stuffing, with vegetable stock. I'm trying to figure out what to make for Thanksgiving, because my vegan son will be home from college. I'm a vegetarian and eat quite a few vegan meals just by happenstance, but I've never tried a vegan T-giving meal. Hoping this thread will give me some good ideas!
It will be my 1st vegan Thanksgiving, too, so I've already been searching the web for recipes. Here are some that look good! ...
Some great ideas there! I forwarded some of those recipes to my son and will see what he would like to make.
One of the best things about my son becoming vegan (with occasional forays to plain old vegetarian meals) is that once he got off the raw vegan diet, he was finally motivated to learn how to cook! So I never worry about him eating well. At least I know he isn't grabbing burgers and pizza all the time like most college kids!
How do you make it without cheese? Is there a good substitute? Again, since I'm a vegetarian and do eat eggs and dairy, I'm having to learn how to make completely vegan dishes.
