I was looking through the 2010 Census and I saw that Oxnard has 111,000 more Hispanics than the next city which is Ventura. I know agriculture is/was a big reason, but I don't think it can be the only reason.

Ag is big in both Ventura and Oxnard. Housing is the biggest factor in cost of living in the area. Oxnard has far more lower priced places to live. On top of that, hispanics like to have kids more than whites, if they happen to be living in Oxnard the kids will be living with them. Now I am white but my wife is Mexican and we have 6 kids. Oxnard also has twice the number of people that Ventura has so chances are it would have had more Mexicans even if the percentages were similar.

I didn't know the gap was that huge. Agriculture has to be the number one reason. If people think Oxnard is an agriculture town right now than they need to look back 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 years ago when there were way more agriculture fields in Oxnard. Oxnard has the cheapest and most housing units in the county. Oxnard has always had a more significant Hispanic population than any other city in the county. There was a significant population before Oxnard even became a city. Like the previous poster said they have a lot of kids..... Oxnard also had a form of "white flight" to places like Camarillo, Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village in 70's and 80's. Oxanrd use to be the most racially diverse city in the county I guess not anymore...

Not sure that it matters though one way or the other how many of one people live in a city. I love living in Oxnard and prefer a place that has some spice to it.
