Hi, I looking for the best place to live in Vermont for a single straight woman in her 40s in a dog friendly environment (I have a pug). Looking for a nice community, not far from the coast and also near day hiking. I recently found out I can not eat gluten (wheat etc) so a community that understands and has options available would be great. I would love to be in a community with other singles so maybe I would have the opportunity of meeting a soulmate and a community that also has families as I enjoy the balance. I have an 80 year old mother I would also want to relocate in an assisted living facility near where I reside. Any suggestions?

When you say "coast" do you mean the ocean or the shores of a lake (Lake Champlain is often called the west coast of New England)? Anywhere in VT is at least a couple hours drive from the ocean.

Burlington would be your best bet. It has a great waterfront park and numerous access points to Lake Champlain.

It also has assisted living facilities for your mom but they are expensive and usually have waiting lists.

I'm starting to look for my mom, so I'll let you know. My mom is in a great senior living community in upstate NY and that place is going to be darn hard to beat. She's very close to needing assisted living, one more fall will do it.
