Try addison county? South of Burlington--about 45minutes to Vergennes on Route 7. Housing prices are cheaper, farm country.

My wife and I almost did this. We found a nice charming home in Jeffersonville, which I guess is about 45 minutes from Burlington.

We instead bought a home 15 minutes from Burlington. I can't tell you how many times we said, "thank God we didn't buy that house in Jeffersonville", I probably say it ten times a year, mainly in winter. Winters are dark, snowy and most importantly icy. I'm used to winter driving but I really wouldn't want to test my luck by doing a lot of icy driving in the dark. I've had some close calls where I've slid into the oncoming lane or almost went off the road.

I agree- I grew up in Jeffersonville and it's a great place to live but only if you don't go past Essex to get to work!
