We have 2 dogs and 2 cats. I've had pets all my life, as has my wife. They get more and perhaps better medical attention than I do. But I suppose that's not too shocking, since I'm a middle aged ...guy

We presently use a Vet who visits the house. She's got staff and a good referral relationship with an emergency vet service (which came in handy when the Labs were puppies and liked to, say, eat chocolate easter bunnies.

There are a number of very good vets here, including a practice limited to cats which is within walking distance.

Fleeing - If you move to The Burlington area, I'll make some telephone calls and get suggestions for you specific to your needs.

Best of luck,

David Beckett

Default Great Vet

We had a great Vet in Shaftsbury (West Mtn Animal Hospital). When our dogs got porcupine quills in the mouth, nose and face at 10PM, we called our Vet who told us she'd meet us in 10 minutes at her office. She had to anesthetize the dogs to get the quills out and she worked on them until the next morning. Our Vet in California wouldn't dream of doing that!

The only veterinary specialists I am aware of in the Burlington area (vicinity) are the vets doing ultrasounds at Essex Veterinary Center in Essex. The woman vet did an ultrasound on a very sick dog of ours and she was fabulous (and helpful). Otherwise Tufts is about 3 hours away.

My vet is CatsVermont (the cats-only place to which a previous poster referred). They're conveniently located in the heart of Burlington. The main vet is a cat lady through & through, so much so that she sometimes seems to like the cats better than the people. However, I've found both her and her staff to be very knowledgeable (even the receptionist is a vet student at UVM). They've seen my cats through a lot (they had been neglected when I got them) and have offered several options for nearly every treatment they've had, including the use of Feliway, a fairly new in-home synthetic hormone spray that calms them, when they had spats with each other.
