Sounds like Western Mass is where you should stay, honestly.

To come to VT as a flatlander and stay, particular anywhere outside of Burlington or Montpelier, you have to REALLY want to be here. If small town, rural, relatively low income life isn't what you're looking for, then life will be hard for you here. Almost everyone in VT has at least two jobs or they work a significant amount of overtime at their one job.

That said, I love this state and I never want to leave. If you're young and unattached, you might as well take the opportunity and see if you like it. You never know!

Decide what you'd like to be involved in before you choose a town to settle in, then judge the prospective move by whether or not it will meet your hopes.
