So during the downpours of the spring everyone is saying that it's going to be a bad summer for bugs.

I live near thick woods and we have practically no skeeters. Unbelievable.

I'm guessing the spring rains were so heavy they washed the eggs right away. Also, a neighbor of mine has, very sadly, serious cancer issues and he isn't feeding his hummingbirds, so we have his group along with our usual crew. Maybe the extras are munching away on the pesky bugs.

I believe your observation is correct. We live near a marsh area and could barely use our grill last summer the mosquitoes were so thick in the evening. It was absolutely unbearable. This summer I've barely noticed any mosquito at all. We live in Colchester.

Yeah, something is different this year. If the windshields on our cars are any indication, There are a lot fewer bugs this year. I'm outside everyday and haven't needed bug repellent since spring. The deer flies died off a month ago and it's been heaven on earth since and I ain't complaining one bit. Maybe microwave towers are doing their part to help, I honestly don't know. If that's what is doing it though, long term ramifications might not be so good. But for now... Ahhhhh....

OK they must have all moved to my garden as this summer has been as bad if not worse than previous years for me. I am especially allergic and have the usual 60+ (yes, 60) bites over my legs.

I've seen areas as bad as ever, and others with hardly any around.

They probably migrated down here to NYC. This has been the worst summer ever as far as I'm concerned. Can't go outside without getting 20+ bites in minutes...it's insane.

I've mostly had a problem with deer files and horse flies this year, but they were actually even worse last year. My wife complaints about the gnats, but they don't like me much.

We've had an unusally lot of deer flies and B-52 horse flies too. I have become obsessed with chasing them. Our poor dog hears a buzzing and heads for the house. I have actually sprayed them directly with Roundup (which is all that was handy) and they STILL fly!

Not true in Springfield.
I hardly saw mosquitoes in Springfield during summer, 2010.

While today, at the Springfield Circle K, I saw a mosquito flying around, even in the sun!

I think Springfield has more mosquito activity, because of Irene.
