So I am taking the plunge and going back to the Green Mountain State. The state-run health care seems wonderful.

Is this a good idea?

If you mean Catamount, it's wonderful if you qualify (Google "vt catamount health eligibility"). If you mean universal coverage by a single-payer or other mechanism. We're not there yet and won't be for several years.

I have Catamount and it's the best, most affordable coverage I have had in a decade.

I agree. And when my spouse developed a serious illness in 2009, we had great coverage. Without Catamount, paying for his care likely would have bankrupted us. Sure, there are deductibles and copays, and we're still paying some of it off. But there's no comparison to any of the other "options" available to us if Catamount hadn't been there.

Are you the guy who bashed Burlington, then moved to Portland and bashed it too?

Well, Burlington is only next to Vermont.

Seems odd to me to move to a small state with not that many jobs for the health care. Sure, that could be a big positive, but it would seem like there would be other considerations. No?

We still have to figure out how to pay for an expensive benefit program.

VT is a high cost of living state even considering the state-run healthcare. Why not choose a more affordable rural area?
