It's not what I would call peak yet in the NEK, but very close. I traveled through Hazen's Notch on Sunday and there was a considerable difference between the Montgomery side and Lowell. Lowell had many bright colors. Montgomery was just getting started. By this weekend it should be really nice on the eastern side of the mountains. The sugar maples at my home in North Troy have only spotty color so far.

As of today the leaves are turning pretty good, but I suspect because of the very dry weather the leaf drop has been increasing. Tonight we are supposed to have pretty heavy rain so that will probably accelerate the leaf drop. Last week I was down in the Manchester area and took forest service rd 71 down to rte 9 and the foliage was really starting to look great in spots. By next week it should be great even down in the lower areas.

I'm seeing more vibrant red this year. Has anyone else noticed that? A few weeks ago I thought the colors were looking muted, maroonish instead of red.

I was just in New Hampshire for several days and the colors there are great, but heading into Vermont I noticed there is more leaf drop and not nearly as much color. I'm wondering if this strange warm weather we are having is causing this. I noticed that the White Mountains didn't get as warm as it has been here in Vermont.
