We are looking at small towns in NH and VT. We visited both states and really liked Dover, Vt? What's the town like? What's the rental market like? What are the towns services like? Are there shops in the village? Is there a coffee shop? and How's the overall vibe of the town? Thanks a lot.

Depends whether you mean West Dover or East Dover-don't really know about the Dover in between (subsuming both East & West sides, which are on either side of forested hill).

West has tourist amenities (restaurants & condos), ski resort, and shuttle bus (along Rte. 100 N down to Wilmington, which as a larger town-more densely populated-has coffee shops, grocery store, and apartments)-slightly more urban/contemporary.
East emphasizes the history and is a bit more "off the beaten path", incl. church, a post office that shares building with small general store, and rural homes tucked away on twisty windy narrow drives. Seems more like where one would "get away from it all" (the hustle & bustle).

Agreed with cloven. Dover is a resort town who's very small population swells during busy months.
It sounds like nearby Wilmington is more what you are looking for? Its very tourist oriented but has some shops, restaurants etc.

The Town of Dover is very spread out with the Town Hall in West Dover and the town offices in East Dover so I guess we need to establish if it's East Dover or West Dover your asking about.

On some maps East Dover is listed as Dover. The Dover Free Library is in East Dover. West Dover is dominated by Mt Snow and busy Rt 100 while East Dover is more rural and the small village is much quieter than West Dover. Many second homes spread all around Dover.

The valley's commercial center is Wilmington, a couple of miles south and was devastated by Hurricane Irene. Much of the village was washed away or severely flooded but most of the repairs/rebuilds have been completed and with a good ski season should bounce back quickly.

On a busy ski weekend due to it's closeness to the NY/NJ area, you will see more plates from there then green plates. Mt Snow gets around 500,000 skier visits per year during a normal winter.
