You have to stop comparing Vt to places like NJ and NYC and compare the cost of housing to the average wages in the area NOT CONSIDERING people who commute to the cities to work. I have a son living in the Bennington area that is having a hell of a time existing on the wages there and he has a degree. Even a job that he was offered because of his degree, which was a town job, did not pay enough for him to accept it and live there. It all depends what income bracket you happen to be in, in Vermont, or any town or state for that fact.
