I live elsewhere. It has been almost constant rain here all summer. I have a feeling we'll have a wet fall too. The ground is already completely saturated here. By my standards, this is a good summer because rain is my favorite weather. I just don't like rain in my basement or in the form of flash floods.

Here is a good site for information on wet basements and mold. Building Science Information Home Page — Building Science Information
Dry basements can happen we did it with a historic building in our town; 99% humidity three years ago, 51% today. The project cost $13,000, but was worth every penny. Opening your windows in the basement in the summer is a bad idea, solve the water infiltration issues and dehumidify. Good Luck
