Sap is going to start running soon, so it's time to visit the Vermont sugar shacks (where they maple syrup is made) for pancakes and other treats.

Vermont and Canada are the biggest producers of maple syrup.

Where is your favorite sugar shack?

I would LOVE to make friends with someone who runs one of these because I can't afford real maple syrup right now.
I joke with my son we must be the only people in Vermont who buy the crappy store brand of 'fake syrup.'

Just pop in a local general store and ask the shopkeeper if there are any local sugarers that welcome visitors. Avoid the commercial sugar houses (those that advertise and cater to tourists). You'll pay more.

I prefer maple syrup myself, but most of my family prefers the fake stuff. They say that real maple syrup is to sweet.

I like Morse Farm just north of Montpelier. Genuine maple creamees all yearround. It's abit touristy but when the sap is boiling it's easy to watch the process. Syrup on snow...yum

Go to Morse Farm. They deal with touristas. A working private sugarhouse is no place you want to be.

There are numerous familiy operations in Huntington and pretty soon there should be articles coming out listing their locations and days to visit. I know earlier this afternoon I passed two which were already firing up.
