My finace and I will be relocating to (possibly) the area around Hanover/WRJ. She will be working on a clinical internship at the WRJ VA and I am seeking academic/research opportunities in the area. We'd like to rent in the area and would like some advice on the best spots to look. We've got a young son (just under a year at the move date) and two small/medium dogs. Renting with animals seems extremely difficult given the information we've seen on-line. Any suggestions on dog-friendly areas?
We're open to either Vermont or New Hampshire, but would like some general information on commuting. For example, what would be a compromise btwn WRJ and Keene (other Southern Vermont).
Just got the final word on the move last week, so we're scrambling to get things together and get some good information before we get there.

The Windsor area might be a good compromise between the Upper Valley and Brattleboro/Keene.
Can't really help otherwise, but have you checked craiglist and the local newspaper for apartment ideas? Also check out the Dartmouth website. They may have some links for professors/students looking for housing.
Good luck!

It's a tight market here. You could rent a condo or town house but most places seem 'dog unfriendly' unless you get someone to negotiate with you. We were actually lucky to find an apartment where we could get a dog (which we did a few weeks ago).

If your fiancee is going to be working at the hospital, it's not far off I91 or I89.

The thing about this area is you can't go just by the newspaper (Upper Valley News). You should try contacting actual real estate agents (ask for their rental agent or department). Finding a place in Norwich or Hanover is EXPENSIVE and hard.

You could live in VT (Quechee is not far from WRJ and there are a lot of condos/townhouses--you might be able to find one to rent). It's about 20 minutes to Dartmouth in good weather from Quechee. Or perhaps Woodstock (the next town West of Quechee). There's also Hartford, Wilder (both in VT).
You can also try Lebanon or West Lebanon in NH.

Vter gave you good advice. If you get out of this area a few extra minutes you can find something cheaper and probably more dog friendly.

If you need more info, I'd be willing to help you as I live in the area.
