Anyone live in Hartford Township and want to tell me about life there? We're actually aiming toward Quechee, though it's 'expensive' it's lovely and nicely situated.
Anything you can tell me (especially about family life) would be great. Also modest family life (meaning we don't have money to enjoy the tourist traps).

There's just not much there. I grew up in the upper valley, and would not move back there after having lived in the Burlington area for the past 15 years.

IMHO, Quechee village is a tourist trap. My favorite town in the UV is Thetford....it's rural, yet close enough to WRJ & W. Leb for it's shopping.

I agree...that shopping village next to the gorge is really tacky. my fav town in the UV is Norwich. Easy drive to Hanover and the shopping and even near Thetford.

We couldn't get a rental in Norwich (I liked that town the best). Quechee is quite pretty, though. I don't care about shopping (didn't see that place). The Green is nice, it's quaint there. (I didn't like Lebanon/West Lebanon where we originally went up to see).

Quechee is a tourist town and not much more. Woodstock is gorgeous but who can afford to live there?

I work in Norwich, my wife works in Hanover NH. We live in Windsor and quite like but the town does have a few sore spots. The town was decrepit an dirt cheap when we bought here 9 years ago. Now it's MUCH nicer but still has some sore spots.

If I had to choose again I would choose Hartland or Hartford. Better schools (Hartland chooses between Windsor, Hartford or Woodstock) closer to work.

Hanover, Leb, West Leb, Norwich are all incredibly expensive and the taxes are beyond believable.

[bitter]You need to get outside that triangle to afford a place unless you are one of the many, many "retired" CEO's etc. who move here an drive up the cost of everything.[/bitter]

It's no Burlington, but when you view the UV collectively there really is a lot to do here, plenty of arts and culture, shows and shopping and entertainment.

I've read some negatives about Windsor.
Yes, well I figure a year is enough to scout out new areas, and get to know places.
We liked Norwich, like I said, but there was nothing we could rent.
Our time was quite limited up there and then school starts soon so we have to make a decision and deal with it.

Sporin, do you have broadband in Windsor?

Nope, Verizon DSL.

The schools are just fine, but not stellar.

Windsor Town politics is always an issue, we've gone through more Selectman and Town Mangers then any small town should.

We have a few areas of town that are poorly managed housing and generally run down. Don't let "The Block" dominate your impressions though, it really is a very small part of town with very little effect on everyone else.

But by far people here are good, upstanding citizens, involved in their town, friendly and welcoming.
