No problems with bees. But the black flies and deerflies are a different story.
I'd rather have a yard full of bees than blackflies or deerflies. Especially deerflies, they circle your head like electrons around an atom. Very, very
annoying. And painful bites. I've lived in Wisconsin. Of course it will depend on where you livembut I find the bug situation worse in Vermont.

Goodness, those flies sound like a force to be reckoned with! But, given the choice between big annoyance vs big allergic reaction, guess I'll have to be happy with the lesser of the two evils .

Great image!

Regarding the drive, looks like I'll have to load up my IPod with audiobooks .

While I am not allergic to bees and wasps, I have a horrible time with the black flies. I swell up something awful. I am now the proud owner of lots of Buzz Off clothing (bought this past weekend at the Orvis tent sale), and wear a hat with a net over it. My forearms took about 12 bites when I stepped outside uncovered for a few minutes. Some of the bites looked like pinballs a couple of days later which is amazing given how tiny the flies are.

Given your allergies, you might want to learn more about those little buzzing blood sucking parasites.

Driving to Rutland is a possibility, but that seems to only cover maybe 1/3 of the trip. And when I get to Boston, I'd still have to rent a car.

Looks more and more like driving the full route is the best alternative.
do nottttt take amtrak, it's consistently late. the one time i took amtrak from burlington to new york city was supposed to take 8 hours (3 hours longer than driving) but ended up taking 10.

I've lived in Vermont for four years and I've loved it. But it is deceivingly expensive, you'll discover that when you are here. Wisconsin on the other hand, is one of the best values in the US. I love it here, but I'll be moving to Wisconsin again one day. My bank account here is dwindling as we speak.

Here's good advice. Do you know how to end up with a small fortune in Vermont?

Start off with a large fortune.
