It is fun to muse of what could have been or should have been. What if in 1960 Nixon had looked better on TV and JFK did not pick up phantom votes in Illinois? Would we have lost 58k troopers in 'Nam? In '64 would Goldwater have really used the "bomb" to bring the enemy to the table or would it have escalated the cold war? Yup, every vote counts, but irregardless of who becomes president it is the Senators and Congressmen that actually gum up the works. I'm actually more concerned at the local level of what could come to pass should certain candidates get into office.

The deadline, I believe, is October 29. I'm sure I'll have a Brattleboro address by then.

Problem solved.

Amazing. The person replied first thing the next business morning and signed off with her first name. Vermont is, indeed, very different from New York.

BTW, how can people be cavalier about the value of a single vote after what happened in Florida in 2000?

Sometimes, I wonder where the country would be now if Al Gore had been elected. Would we be in Iraq? Would we be having such economic problems?

Just a few votes would have made the difference. (Or might have. )
Electoral versus popular votes, and even with the popular vote in VT, conservatives and libertarians are vastly outnumbered overall by liberals, socialists, etc. Certain areas of the state are quite conservative or libertarian leaning, but it's not enough to counter Burlington, etc. So, quite predictably, the most liberal of the two major candidates (the Democrat) gets VT's electoral votes each time these days. Quite a change since VT was once pretty predictably conservative.
