They bought hundreds of thousands of rural acreage with many oak trees that were 300 yrs old or more. We have statutes in place to keep people from being able to cut these down however the villages managed to get the counties to approve the removal of these trees by saying they would leave a certain number (they did), they planted alot of palms (another thing is when u cut down a tree you have to plant 1 for every so many u cut down), and they showed the $$$, businesses and jobs, their retirement community would bring into the area. What they neglected to mention is that if a business wants to open in the Villages they have to agree to a certain percentage of their employees being retirees. Which effectively cuts down on the number of jobs available.

They really don't care about your Norman Rockwell fantasy anyway -if they
even know who he is.VT culture now consists of watching American Idol etc
just like everywhere else in the US.
Does the average VTer have Norman Rockwell fantasies? I would like to think that is true (and would happily join them).

Flatlanders often unknowingly treat Vermonters like they're stupid, backward, and uncultured. Flatlanders often act like they are a gift to Vermont. Flatlanders complain. Flatlanders talk too much and listen too little.

I am a flatlander and I made all those mistakes at least a few times until I learned to keep my "citiot" mouth shut. After that, I fit in just fine.
