I guess what a Vermonter would consider a "serious drug and gang problem" is pretty commonplace in most suburbs around this nation.
I just went to the corner convenience store and watched a cop drive up, frisk an (average looking) man who was smoking outside, and drive away... and I live in an upper class nice suburb of Houston.

We lock our doors, and cars, and had a break in over the summer, but our street neighbors are tight nit, watch out for each others children and homes, and report any suspicious activity. Crime can "move in" to an area all it wants, but if those who live there refuse to accept it, it will not gain foothold. Prevention is better than the cure.

Sherylcat...you by chance aren't referring to Rut-Vegas, the city with the highest bar per capita ratio in the country...not that there's anything wrong with bars. I agree with you that compared to most of the country vermont's crime is extremely low but even Vermont can't escape the occasional wackoo. I can't think of a single place in vermont I would fear to travel, how many majors cities can you say that about, but by comparison the entire population of Vermont barely adds up to a major cities population.
