I had forgotten that the Nearings tried their little lifestyle experiment in Vermont! they were really way ahead of their time, and became an inspiration for many. One such person happens to be Martha Stewart, who tried to model her Turkey Hill farm in Connecticut on the Nearings' principles and practices. It's amazing how many famous people from various walks of life are either from Vermont, or chose to make Vermont their home. And speaking of Martha, I believe her ex-husband lives in Vermont.

By the way, another interesting book about farming/livestock in Vermont is "Mad Sheep". Can't think of the author just now, though.

Thanks! I've enjoyed Joe Citro's writing and VPR broadcasts. I haven't read Archer Mayor or Dorothy Canfield yet. Sounds like there's treasure awaiting me.

I'm not a mystery fan but I do like Archer Mayor's books. They all take place (or partly take place) in Vermont. Mostly the Brattleboro area.
