I think that Wild Arms 3, or FFVII are possibly the best jrpgs. For American company created rpgs, Morrowind and Oblivion are tied for my pick.

I don't know about anyone else on here, however, I LOVE, LOVE, HEART me some JRPG. JRPG's are one of the first type of video games that truly got me into RPG's in general and have also given me some of the fondest moments in my video gaming life. In fact, one of the video games that truly made me teary eyed was a highly famous and highly acclaimed JRPG called--you guessed--Final Fantasy 7!!

I know plenty of JRPG's can be really corny, cliche, silly and some over-the-top but some of my favorite games just happen to be JRPG's which were also innovative (Valkyrie Profile comes to my head).

I plan on buying some more JRPG's for my PS2 and PS3 just to get my fix!

So, I'll start off with my favorite JRPG games and I'll tell why some of them happened to be my favorite.

So (in no particular order) here or some of my favorite JRPG's:

Final Fantasy 7(PSX)-What more can I? It may be overrated to some and the ending probably a little odd but I love EVERYTHING about this game. The music, the characters, the battle system, the story the list goes on. Heck, I remember beating this game when the Yankee's won the World Series and my family was going ape****-for me beating FF7 was like MY world Series. The impact this game left on me actually made me more open, social and adventurous in life!!

Final Fantasy 8 and 9(PSX)-Totally underrated, hated and overlooked. I don't understand why but I felt like they were just as good at 7 and possibly even better! The endings in both games were just so frakkin good and the characters just as memorable!

Chrono Trigger(SNES)-THIS JRPG, THIS game, right hurr, is what truly got me into JRPG's/RPG's games in general. Prior to this game, I wasn't into RPG's since I had them mainly for the NES and found them so dead boring. This game changed EVERYTHING of how RPG's were to me. The story, the music, the characters the innovative battle system, the time traveling aspect of the game just blew my mind. I was a little tike back then and this really helped capture my mind, kept me busy and simply made RPG's so much more fun for me. Definitely one of the most underrated games probably EVER I feel.

Star Ocean 2 (PSX)-This was such an overlooked game. I'll admit, the characters, the story, the voice acting (UGH!) weren't as memorable as a Final Fantasy game but non-the-less it was a very fun game, with PLENTY of side quest to do, over 80 plus endings, and great character development. What I loved the most was the battle system. It was set in real time so you can do all sorts of combo's and combine them with magic! Very kick ass game and definitely a thrill to play.

Valkyrie Profile (PSX)- Another (of plenty) overlooked Japanese games. Valkyrie Profile had a unique "combo" battle system and what I liked about the game as the unique story of playing as a Valkyrie sent down to Earth from Valhalla to recruit soldiers for the war to Ragnarok. It's story revolves around Norse Mythology and has about 3 different cool endings. It of course mixes it's own cool story along with the Norse Mythology and has a great cast of characters. You also get to choose how you use your EXP points for and forge your own items, which I think is cool. One thing that can be kind of a hindrance is that the game has a "count down" to when you are going into battle with Ragnarok so every time you leave a dungeoun a day or two passes by depending on the event in that dungeon. So you're kind of rushed through the game.

Brave Fencer Musashi(PSX)- What an awesome game this was. It was touted as Squaresofts Zelda at the time and tried to be a "Zelda killer" and though it didn't come close, it was a game dear to my heart. The game didn't take itself seriously and was very humorous! It's more of action-RPG so for people who don't really like turn based, this is up your ally!

Skies Of Arcadia (Dreamcast)- Wow! I never got to beat this game but the times I did get to play this game, it was off-the-hook! The ship-to-ship combat was definitely a great change of pace and the story and characters were definitely memorable! This was one of those games I wish would have truly gotten more recognition, its one of those moments where I shake my head and wonder why it was just not ever nominated. :/. It was also one of the best Dreamcast games ever for me and the reason why I still have my Dreamcast (but not the game ). If you have a Dreamcast still, and love JRPG's:

BRUSH
OFF
YOUR
DREAMCAST
AND
BUY
THIS
GAME!!

I have plenty of more games that I can go on about I am sure. I want to see everyone else's contributions!
Did you play the original Star Ocean 2, or the PSP version?

I also forgot to mention Kingdom Hearts (the first), I must have been out of my mind.

I'm really enjoying the Tales of Xillia games. I bought Graces and Symphonia as well and will work through those.

I think Pokemon XD counts and I also like Phantasy Star Universe. I have not played many JRPG's but Tales of Symphonia so far is my favorite. These are my only JRPG's

Wasn't Tales of Xilia the game with a pervy old man who had a "bazonga" obsession?

Final Fantasy VI
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy VII
Lunar: The Silver Star
Lunar 2: Eternal Blue
Xenogears (my all-time favorite game)
Secret of Mana
Wild Arms
Final Fantasy VIII (mostly for story - I didn't care for the junction system)
Final Fantasy IX
Ni No Kuni

These are some of my personal favorite JRPG's. With the exception of Ni No Kuni, this genre has really lost its luster IMHO. The golden age of JRPG's was definitely during the SNES & PSX era.
