I was making a budget of all the equipment I need to produce and direct my first feature film, and one thing I wonder if I should scrap or not to save money is a dolly to move the camera on. I wonder if a scene can work just as well without one.

I tried uploading some specific movie scenes as examples, but youtube will not allow me to cause of copyright of course . Here's some movie scenes that were shot with dollies in places. Would these examples would work without them?

What do you think, would these scenes work just as well?

Do you NEED one? Probably not. I think I wouldn't buy it for a movie I don't even have script for.
You don't need a remote fire truck engine, car tracking systems and gadgets, and who knows what else. Don't make your movie technically complicated.
You can make successful short movie even with a phone cam, and all your scenes could be made in one room, with 1 or 2 actors.
You think too big and it's overwhelming you.

All you need is a captivating story, and you're still working on that. So, you have a long way to go. Like with a great book, the story is the most important part of the movie. Everything else just evolves around it. Make it simple, the first time.
Your script should be like a short novel. You need to finish that novel before you get into details.
But it seems that you don't have a clear concept of your story - yet and you're making it as you write. You get lost and sidetracked in little, unimportant details.
Why are you thinking about camera dolly already?

Start with this:

Then read this: (especially rule #7, because that's exactly what you're doing, but shouldn't)

And this:

And some more like it...

Just in case you're still determined to get the dolly:

But remember - you can also make great shots
while riding bicycle around your actors...

Oh okay, but have the script almost ready to, and the story is finished aside from a few technical details, like the fire engine part and things like that. I am budgeting out those sections at the moment.

I was thinking of the dolly at this point cause just trying to come up with a budget as well, and how much everything is going to cost.

most of most movies is just people talking.
dialogue decides the drama.
actors and technique
make classics.

so...no.
do not spend money on the dolly.
spend more money on Dollie.

Did I say something bad on here? All I asked was about whether or not it was worth the extra money, I didn't think it should be made a big deal about to go off topic to other areas of filmmaking.

B&H has dolly's from $169.00 to $109,725.00... Take your pick: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/searc...t&N=3907816545
1. Have you ever seen a dolly?
2. Have you ever used a dolly?
3. Worth how much "extra money"?

Well I might be willing to go up to %500. I wast told not to use the $169 one particularly as it's not as smooth. But maybe I could just use the gimbal to pull off dolly moves instead maybe...

+1.

I beg of the OP not to make the movie. He will be living at home forever...just make a simple short "movie" and put it on the WWW.

Where are you getting a fire truck and are you going close a street????

Also, truly, you need help with basic spelling/grammar. How will you write a script?
