Sammy T's. One of my lunch (dinner too) favorites for a long time.

Sammy T's Light Food & Ale in Fredericksburg, Virginia

In Ladysmith (Exit 110, 16/20 miles south of Fredericksburg) there are two indipendent restaurants... Giuseppe's (Italian) and The Timbers (American). For both, take Exit 110 and turn West. About a 1/2 mile later and you'll see them to your right. They are both in the front of the Ladysmith Business Park. there are no traffic lights, so getting in/out from the highway is really fast.

Another Italian option is Angela's off of the Thornburg exit (Exit 118) Again turn west, go about a 1/2 mile, and it's on your left, right after the post office.

If you're in the mood for Mexican, you can hit Poncho Villa's off of exit 126 (Fredericksburg exit, to Rt. 1 north), go to the first traffic light and turn right, the restaurant will be on your left. (It's a small local chain)

If you want chinese, there's a hole-in-the-wall type place that has a great little buffet. Take the same exit/direction above (Exit 126 onto Rt. 1 north), but drive about a mile or so, until you get to the intersection with Courthouse Road. (big road coming in at a shallow angle) Turn left, then turn right at the next light. Lins Gourmet will be in the back left corner of the shopping center.

I'll toss in a couple of other recommendations. Never tried lunch at either of the below, but have eaten dinner at each many times.

La Petite Auberge (my favorite dinner restaurant in Fredericksburg).
La Petite Auberge of Fredericksburg

TruLuvs
TruLuv's American Bistro

Fredericksburg caters to empty stomachs, and does so very well.
