Husband is contemplating offer in Rosslyn. Looking for housing area options.
We know NOTHING about VA except that it's muggy in the summer and traffic is bad.
Would consider renting for a while or would buy (500-600K range budget).
Husband would like to travel on Metro but would consider 45 minute travel each way.
We have a 5 yr old girl in K - public school preferred.
Safe, family area - open to city or small town living.
We have lived in San Diego for the last 1.5 years and before that Southern New Hampshire (since childhood).
I am a nurse so being near a hospital would be a bonus.
We are very flexible - any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We jumped at the chance to relocate to CA with out doing much homework and want to make an educated decision this time around.
Any suggestions?????

You may want to try posting in the Northern VA subforum, but yes, it gets humid in the summer and traffic is bad. For 500-600k you may want to consider parts of Arlington and Fairfax Counties (Rosslyn is in eastern Arlington Co). I'd check with a broker, but I think you can get a house somewhat close to a Metro in western Arlington/Eastern Fairfax for that price range, but it won't be a newer or particularly big house. Places like Vienna and parts of Falls Church give a nice town feeling and have decent schools. Pretty much all schools in the area are good by national standards, although some are better than others locally (do a search in the Northern VA forum on schools and you should find plenty of info).

There are a couple of hospitals each in Arlington and Fairfax counties.

There are similar topics already in the NoVA forum so you may get lots of ideas just by reading the existing topics.

Just out of curiosity, why leave SD? I'm thinking of relocating and SD is at the top of my list...
