Hello, I am a single, black female who will be in the Fab 40 Club real soon. I am seeking to relocate in summer of 2016. By then I will have my third degree & I am interested in furthering my career in the mental health field. I am from the North and these winters are just too brutal for me to spend the rest of my life in.

Although Raleigh was my #1 city to move too in 2008, I still have Virginia on my mind. I desire options culturally and professionally so strong factors such as a rich African-American culture, lifestyle, and opportunities come into play as well. I love going to plays, comedy shows and nice clubs that play jazz or have a good poetry night. The only city I visited in Virginia was Roanoke. I fell in love with the mountains and the southern hospitality; however, no one could tell me what to do or where to go for cultural event or just a Girl’s Night out. One Virginian told me that Roanoke was a good city for raising families, but it lacked in black culture and night life. Spending a week in Roanoke doesn’t give me room to base my opinion so that is why I am writing this thread in hopes of receiving feedback on a preference city…after all, this is based on one’s opinion. Please don't comment with reckless abandon...It will be greatly appreciated…

I am not sure what exactly you are looking for in terms of black culture.

In terms of the state, Northern Virginia outside of DC is your best choice.

I have never lived in Richmond although I've visited often. Richmond has a large African American population and from what I've seen may have much of what you are looking for.

Where in NOVA are the things related to black culture that the OP has mentioned above? Just curious.

This message has been deleted by Ibginnie. Reason: Race Baiting OR reply to it"

Ibginnie. I would appreciate if you would change this so people realize I was not the one doing the race baiting. This can go either way. I was the one who reported the jerk.
