I will be taking a position in Reston, VA and am trying to find out the best place to move my family to. I have a Wife a couple of kids, so night life, restaurants etc are not a priority for me. Here are some of my guidelines:

1. Rent under $2000 (needs to be at least a 3 bedroom, no exception)
2. Safe, family area
3. Decent public school / private schools
4. Commute > or = 1 hour
5. Need a place with a yard

Any information would be great! Information on housing websites I should be viewing would help as well!

If none of these are feasible, then I will not accept the position.

You might need to go out as far as Manassas but I'm not certain with the price you're quoting. You can stay under an hour with Manassas, on most days. Stay off 234 business though. Look toward Bristow/Gainesville or maybe Haymarket. Good safe neighborhoods here with good schools. You'd likely prefer somewhere in Fairfax like Centreville but that 2000 rental limit might make it tough.
