I live in Manassas, VA and found contract work in Elkton, VA for 1 year. I decided Culpeper, VA would be the best area to live in as it is in between work (Elkton) and family (Manassas).

I would like rent+utilities for less than $1000 and prefer no roommate. I don't need a big place and a studio apartment would work just fine. The cheaper the better. I want some place safe, clean and somewhat quiet. I will be working a lot of overtime and don't want to come home to a lot of noise and disturbances.

Some more about me: I am a 24 year old single male of middle eastern origin. I lived around the Northern Virginia (NOVA) area my whole life. I attended Virginia Tech for mechanical engineering so I have some feel for Southwest VA. Engineering employment around this part of Virginia seems to be very limited and I will probably leave for a bigger metro area after my 1 year is up.

Based on all the above information, where would you recommend I look into or stay away from? Do you have any specific neighborhoods or areas that come to mind? Thanks for your help

Why would do that to yourself? Frankly I would live in Harrisonburg and come home for weekends.

I sort of stunned that engineering positions are limited in Northern Va. Have you looked at the big companies around here? Lockheed, BAE, Boeing, etc?
