Where do we start? We would like to move to VA from upstate NY. Where does my wife start looking for a job? And whats the odds she would land a job over a VA native? Especially when we dont live there yet. Our plan is to make the move once we know she has a job. Anyone have any connection to the system in VA, or advice for us? We would greatly appreciate it!! We look forward to hearing your comments.

Where in VA? School districts such as Fairfax, Prince William, Loudoun, Arlington, etc. couldn't care less if you are a "native". They're just too big. I'm sure many other districts aren't that petty either. My parents both switched from Ohio to Bedford County Schools and were hired in a heartbeat.

What is her certification? Do you work outside the home?

Are you looking for a particular type of area, or just VA and a job in general?

This link is for the Virginia Department of education, a good place to start for getting your VA License. VDOE :: Licensure .

Here is the main page for teaching in Virginia VDOE :: Teaching in Virginia

Good Luck!

There are teaching shortages throughout Virginia. I would suggest applying and coming down for interviews and looking in Prince William, Fauquier, Culpepper, Fairfax, and Loudoun Counties. City of Richmond is also a great location, Charlottesville, Stafford. Also have your wife get certified in Virginia as a teacher, make sure she meets the criteria.

It sounds like virginia accepts a ny cert and allows you 3 years to get your va cert. Does anyone know if this is correct?
