Paul Volcker: California And Virginia have their budgets in order - Fortune

Virginia is one the few states that has its finances in good shape according to former Federal Reserve Board Chairman Paul Volcker. The Republican legislature and Governor McAuliffe may at odds a lot of times but this situation is much better than what is happening in most states and keeps us in the moderate middle unlike Cuccinelli would have. Staying in the middle keeps us from going to either the failed left wing model followed by such states as New Jersey and the failed right wing model currently followed by states such as Kansas and Wisconsin.

The budget is a good thing, but getting VDOT to be competent? We need a miracle for that one...

At least we have our finances in order, that is always a good thing!! The Washington Post did an article on Virginia at the bottom
of the list in job creation. Some serious issues the Governor is worried over federal budget cuts, especially in NoVa and DC.
We rely too much on the federal government and we are not competing with nearby states for jobs. Dulles airport is seeing
a big drop in traffic and incomes are taking a hit. Now, for the good news on our economy

Nice try to politicize the budget landscape. What about the worst budget state called Illinois? Illinois is close to reaching a single A rating for its bonds. Wait, a republican is governor there too. And Maryland too with its budget woes. A single gubernatorial position doesn't automatically point to budget health. The study never looked at Wisconsin or Kansas. The original study looked at seven of the most populated states and then Volker is highlighting the three he wanted to highlight. He omitted Texas, which is in better fiscal health than Virginia. And Illinois is far worse than Jersey but Jersey has a governor who may run for president.

Virginia was lauded for its selective tax increases such as vehicle and property taxes only applying to certain counties. The report doesn't mention reducing spending as a valued priority. The co-chair for this report was a former lieutenant governor of New York. He's probably not a fan of Jersey. Even the preface on the 7-state original report states they didn't have consensus in their assessment and recommendations.

All politics set aside, my state of Missouri, Virginia, and North Carolina always had AAA S&P State Credit Ratings.
