The wife and I hope to move to Edinburg area very soon. The house we want is out in the country, near Wolf Gap Winery, and we were wondering how often power goes out during storms? I'm considering installing a generator when we move in but may not if the power rarely goes out.

I don't know exactly how often it goes out there, but if you have the money it might be worth the investment being in that rural of an area. With all the trees along the power line routes and snow in winter, I'd imagine it would go out every now and then.

It's hard to tell, for example, there's one neighborhood in Staunton, VA that looses power 2 times a year guaranteed. (it sucked living there). I know that's a bit away from Edinburg but you get the idea.

If Dominion Virginia Power services that area you can always use their energy programs for solar or generator. They put in the solar panels or generator and after payoff any extra energy they make you can sell back to Dominion, might be something to look into.

I've noticed that the lines are buried near this home but not how much in the area are buried as well. And I called Dominion and they no longer do the generator program but didn't ask about solar panels.

I get a flyer every now and then with my bill about the solar panels. I haven't seen one in awhile, they may have stopped that one too. Never hurts to ask though.
