When I hear the term "sunbelt", I think of states like Florida, Texas, and Arizona to name a few. Virginia is totally not sunbelt. We don't even have naturally growing palm trees here. I only think the ones in Va Beach were transplanted, not native.

The Upper South is not considered to be part of the sunbelt, although Virginia shares more population, demographic, and economic trends with its southern neighbors than with its neighbors to the north.
