Humidity Ignorant Soul (Richmond, Shenandoah: living in, garden, activities)

I have been reading the posts through this site and have learned that Virginia will be humid from 'Early June until Late August'. What I haven't seen is if this is a daily occurrence or if it comes in waves with a respite in between. I think I could deal with it as long as every day isn't a guaranteed humid day. Thank you all so much for your helpful insight to a "humidity ignorant soul"!

It depends on where you are in the state but here in Richmond, it is pretty constant. It is routinely hot and humid long after the sun goes down during the summer months. What state are you coming from?

We are currently in Northern Ohio. We do get a few humid days here, but most of the summer is warm and comfortable (not humid).

We are looking to relocate to the Shenandoah Valley area and I was hoping it would not be humid all the time.

I'm only moderately familiar with the Shenandoah Valley area but from what I hear it can be a little less humid than central VA. There are a few posters here from that area so I'm sure one of them will give you a little more info. Best of Luck!

I live in the Shenandoah Valley. If it's humid elsewhere in VA it's also humid in the valley. We tend to see more winds blowing here which can have a tendency to make it feel cooler but it's still humid. VA stays humid in the summer more than it's not humid but it does see some breaks in there at times. I've been in VA from 73 to current and I've survived the humidity.

Call me crazy but I don't mind the humidity, it comes with the territory and is part and parcel of living in this beautiful state.

My concern (again - I have no real life experience with humidity other than visits with relatives in Florida in the summer) is that I will not be able to garden or function outside during those months. So I am hoping that the humidity level is mostly tolerable and will not impede my outside activities. I'm hoping I can use the common sense heat issues I am used to - stay inside or out of direct sun during hottest part of day, do heavy work early morning or evenings, etc.

I would avoid strenuous activity outdoors between the hours of 10am and 6pm during the summer. I run in the summer and following that rule it's not bad.
