We are on the Blue Ridge Mtns near Waynesboro and we see roaches occasionally. We do not have any regular pest control. I used to spray once per year and the seemed to keep them at bay. It is a lot colder here are 2400' elevation than most of VA and that helps. If you cannot strand them, then plan for quarterly sprayings.

Now if you want roaches... er, 'palmetto bugs' as they are known on the coast of NC and maybe SC... then head down to deeper in the South. They do get more common. I can recall that at my Naval Reserve duty station, Jacksonville Naval Air Station, they were rampant in the old BEQ housing there. Spraying was done once or twice per week; the bugs would disappear for about half a day and then be right back. I think the bugs had the pest contoller's schedule and just went and hung out at the nearest bar for a while LOL.
