Heading south down I=81 heading toward Ashville, NC maybe next week. What is the most scenic town to spend a day or two in along I-81? I was thinking Harrisonburg, Staunton, or Roanoke?

What is the difference? What is the most interesting to see.

Thanks.

Add Lexington to the mix - even though it is quite a bit smaller, it's a delightful stop.

All of these have nice scenic options!

Maybe do part of the Blue Ridge Parkway and stop at Peaks of Otter!

If your not in a hurry, stop in Lexington and take the horse drawn carriage tour of the town. Not a long tour, but a nice way to see the town and get a quick history lesson, if your into that.

Roanoke has a lot to do downtown, especially if your into trains. Check the city's website, there are events all year round in Roanoke.

I agree, they're both great towns to visit! If you have time the next best in my opinion is Abingdon.

There is an absolutely beautiful brewery/winery along I-81 called Great Divide Valley in Lexington.
