I want to know how people from India who live/work in Lynchburg area feel.

- Schooling for kids
- Are there particular areas where there larger Indian communities reside
- Social activities or groups
- Adjustment to smaller place (which in many forum visiitors' opinion is conservative Christian)

I am considering moving from NY/Nj area.

I'm not sure how they feel, but they all look happy as they head to work at Genworth! There seems to be a rather large Indian community here, with many having come to work/train at Genworth Financial. From what I understand, there are a fair number of these employees residing at Walden Pond Apartments, in the Lakeside Dr. area, maybe due to relatively short (1-2 years) stays at the Lynchburg facility. Genworth has operations in India, also.

Sregorat.
Thanks for your response. I am being offered a position at GenWorth.
So this is helpful.

I also learned that Raonoke has a larger Indian community.

Thanks.

Insurance/Finance seems to be the draw in Lynchburg. Does the same hold true in Roanoke? I do know that there are quite a few insurance companies there.

According to a friends neighbor (who is Indian) the majority (but not all) of Indians in Lynchburg work at Genworth.
Roanoke has much more Indian families……and even some kind of cricket league with Pakistani families.

Thank you Sregorat and mr_Jonas.

I am going to Lynchbug area on Saturday to make sure my family feels comfortable with the city and neighboring cities.

I read several comments here that 24503 is the best area to live. However most aprtments and amenities seem to be in 24502 area. How is 24502?

Thanks again for your help.

Try Boonsboro Village Apts. or Huntingwood Apartments. Boonsboro units are a bit smaller but are closer in to Genworth; they are also in the Lynchburg City School district, which offer many more opportunities for advanced students than county school districts.

There are a good number of houses to rent in the 24503 that would work better for a family. Check the local paper and Craigs List. I just rented out a nice 3br/1.5 Ba in the heart of the 24053 for $950/mo. Right now there are a fair number for rent.

How about Nepalese community?
Is there any Nepali community in the Lynchburg area?
I'm new to this area and was trying to find any Indian grocery but discovered that the closest one is in Roanoke.
