Ok! We are newly married couple an we want out of Arizona , dont get us wrong Arizona is nice place to live, But we have been told that Virginia is the best place to raise a family and a the best place to move too if you want to have peace and enjoy your married life.

So, we need HELP! i've been to VA and i love it, But i've only been to Woodbridge, VA. Which is a rat hole and everyone tells me that. So we are looking for place in VA. were we have a target, wallmart, cvs, shopping center close by well you get the drift.
We are looking to move close too DC but not too close; cause we want to avoid the crime rate and all the trouble makers from DC maybe about 45 mins to 1 HR.. We are looking for and apt to rent or possibly a home to rent. we are also looking for garage kind of place, Maybe a place that is gated or quite and a place were we can walk around with out a problem and not worry about anything. we like were we can be happy and start a our new life and family.

So here we are and we NEED HELP !!! if anyone can helps us would be great.

Thank you

Erick

Based upon your criteria (wanting to be 1 hr, or so, from DC) I would look at the following places (in no particular order):

Winchester, VA - good size medium city, nice downtown area...but over an hour from DC proper

Fredricksburg, VA - see above, but closer to DC...plus a nice sized University

Culpeper, VA - cute town, close to DC...somewhat smalller than the two above...

Leesburg, VA - great down, historic downtown...lots of appeal...close to DC

Good luck

Check out the Gainesville and Haymarket area. Excellent schools, close to the mountains, and new shopping popping all over the area.

What about Fairfax? It's up there by DC, and it's supposed to be really nice. It's the richest county in the country, I believe, so I'm sure it has gated communities. It also has some of the best schools in the nation.

try the gainesville area. That's in price william county. that's right off route 66 and approx 30 minutes from dc. A great place to raise a family; near all the shops. I spent 53 years in and about that area.

For everything-but it is crowded and pricey is Fairfax County, Prince William-out in Gainesville is ok, but around here commuting is horrible, so the closer you live to your work the better-so if DC is work destination then Fairfax.

I did the reverse of this move last March and I'll never leave AZ. I don't even want to visit VA again. In AZ my house is twice the size of my house in Fairfax and my rent here is less than my mortgage in VA. Best of all, I don't have to arrange my life around traffic anymore.

Erick - I too moved to Virginia from Arizona back in 2000. I wont say it was a bad move but I'm looking to go back now. VA, especially NOVA, is a high cost area and unless you have a good job it can be tough to raise a family. Having said that, there are plenty of opportunities here and many great places to live. It would be easier to provide some sound advice if you could tell us what type work you do and if you already have a job lined up...

It really depends, do you like a fast or slow paced lifestyle. What are your hobbies, do you like big cities or smaller cities? Or not cities at all? There is allot to pick from depending how your lifestyle is.
