wow, this is a great website and i am HOPING someone can help me.

my husband has been offered a FANTASTIC medical position, but we know nothing about the area. we are looking in stafford and king william county, 4/2 home, new because of child allergies for our 22 mth old son.

the biggest problem is we know thing about the costs to live there. for instance, gas heating and cooking, i am being told $200.00 per month is cheap, plus water, electric, etc...

can anyone help me define what utilities i would need to pay for, what environmental issues i need to know about, and property taxes. good lord, it is VERY expensive in Florida, but i have no clue where to start.

Thank you.

Potomac MD? If so, Stafford and Prince William County, which are the outermost VA suburbs, would be extremely inconvenient.

I'm confused...
king william county is down by Richmond.

Potomac va is in Alexandria (I googled!) but most people when refering to Potomac mean Potomac MD.

Stafford county is south not convient to Richmond or Potomac MD but would be doable if office is in Alexandria.

so...a little more claification on the info, please.

Potomac, MD. That's a pretty town. Pretty expensive too I remember in the early nineties, being given a driving tour of Potomac by the daughter of a wealthy couple that owned a successful navy engineering firm.

Here were some of the choicest quotes that I remember:

"Oh, see, over that embankment, that's where Arnold Schwarzenegger's house is"

"Oh, there is Sugar Ray Leonard and his family!" (Sugar Ray was at the time, I'm not kidding, leading a pony out of a _U-Haul_ trailer, how safe is that!)

Later, she says, about Sugar Ray's house:

"My parents were looking at that house when it was on the market. They decided it was too small"

"That couple has a bowling alley in their basement."

lol

Yeah, you could do the same on a tour of McLean. But needless to say, each with a population of about 40K, there are plenty of just plain regular old folks in both McLean and Potomac.

Otherwise, yes. More clarification of the 'Potomac' location is needed. If it's Potomac, MD, then you probably want to live in MD. There's no use crossing that danged bridge everyday if you don't have to.

Ah, perhaps Potomac Hospital in Woodbridge, VA. That would make some sense. And so then would Prince William County...
