Hello I live in Seattle and moving to DC metro area in next 2 weeks. From my research I have narrowed down to New Carrollton area to live in.

Firstly, can you guys suggest if New carrollton is safe area to live in?

Secondly, can you please recommend good apartments/condo etc near New Carrolton station 2 Bed room which are under $1500?

Thanks in advance for you response.

I mean, what type of neighborhood you come from? It's some apartments like right by New Carrollton station and they not exactly the hood, but you can still get robbed though. If you carry yourself the right way nothin might not happen, but still they be doin' stupid stuff over there. If you driving or like I said, if you carry yourself the right way then you should be good.

depending on what you're accustomed to, new carrollton is an ok neighborhood. it's a little rough around the edges but it's not the roughest area of pg county. try frenchman's creek. they are condos but are mostly renter occupied - you can find a nice place there. it's fairly quiet there, working class and family-oriented.

Whatever you do.....please don't move into any apartment near Cheverly. I grew up in the Landover/Cheverly area and I can't think of any apartment complex's near or around the Cheverly area that you would want to live in. New Carrollton is okay.....I lived at the Fountain Club and didn't have any problems. I have to point out that I had heard of a few "situations" with some of the local teens, but I lived towards the front of the Fountain Club near the rental office and never had any problems from teens and the staff were great. This was 6 years ago...they also have a small mid-rise that may be worth looking into.

Let me give a little piece of advice to ANYONE looking to move into an apartment in PG County. I grew up here and still live in PG County. If you are looking to move into an apt in PG, please please please do a little research into the apartment complex name. Here's a rule to always follow (and this is just my 2 cents), never, Never, NEVER move into an apartment complex that has undergone multiple name changes. I would even caution against moving into a complex that has changed its name even once.

I grew up in PG County and when I was younger we always lived in apartments. I can tell you from first hand knowledge and experience. If an apartment complex has changed its name its a good possibility that a lot of negative things have happened (drugs, rape, robberies). The complex's change their name to try to dis-associate themselves with all the negativity.

I agree. I know of a complex, in the Lanham area, that has undergone name changes. I could look at the complex while driving by and tell that there were issues.

That's what I'm thinking. His name sounds Asian Indian and I would be concerned the local thugs may see him as an attractive target walking from the Metro.
