And I think Bowie is the largest city in PG by land area and population, though Hyattsville is much more denser.
I don't know about Mt. Rainier, but Bethesda is not a city.

Berkeley of the East for Takoma Park is right. I am on the DC side of Takoma Park area...but it is easily one of the most liberal towns in the US and frequently mentioned in articles. I love it though, it reminds me of my favorite towns in Vermont and the Pacific Northwest.
I also think it is one of the few places with a legitimately laid back atmosphere in the Beltway. It is a quality I think is hard to find in the area.

Mt. Rainier is getting more hipster
Ft.Washington is getting more of a tourist destination with National Harbor and Tanger Outlets
Brandywine is getting more suburban with is building boom for Southern PG and more of a "suburb of Waldorf" if that makes sense

And to tcave, youre correct... Bowie is largest in PG by land while Hyattsville is denser
I believe the OP is just looking at municipalities. Fort Washington and Brandywine wouldn't fit the bill.

Also want to add that although Hyattsville is more dense, Bowie is still the most populous though.

Every one of those towns makes me think of this song:

**** Towne Lyrics - Live

We need fractions:

Gaithersburg: .0000001
Takoma Park: .000001
Greenbelt: .00001
Bowie: .0001
College Park: .001
Laurel: .01
Rockville: .1
