My family is moving to Bethesda from out of state for 12 months, to a rented house just off Mass Ave. I'm looking for a tennis club where I could spend a few mornings playing with other (not too competitive) women. Are there any tennis/country clubs in the area that don't demand $$$$ sign-up fees (given that we're only there for a year)??

A bit of a drive but probably your best bet:

Montgomery Parks: Indoor Tennis - Cabin John Facility

You could also call this group to get more information
Montgomery Parks: Indoor Tennis - Cabin John Facility

Lastly, you could check a couple clubs explaining the one year rental
Home - Carderock Springs Swim and Tennis Club
Bethesda Tennis Partners - Tennisopolis : Tennis Social Network
Potomac Tennis & Fitness

Good luck!

Several of the parks near Mass Ave. have tennis courts. I'm sure once you are there you can find people who play there.
