How long before Maryland legalizes marijuana? You know that has to be on the horizon....

Its a revenue source you just know our elected leaders should and will look at.

As liberal as this state is, it has to happen. Right?

I certainly hope so. There's no reason for alcohol and tobacco to be legal and marijuana to be illegal. We spend way too much money prosecuting simple possession cases; not only could legalizing marijuana add tax revenue, it could save money on police/court time as well.

I don't see any reason why it shouldn't pass.

That's a good point. Does anyone know the impact it has had on state's that have legalized it?

CO and I think WA state has legalized as of last night. CA has had this law but I'm not sure what is the result of it. I've heard dispensaries have shut down, mostly by the Fed gov who has also vowed to still make it illegal on a federal level. It's legal in MA though if more than an ounce, $100 fine (may apply to CA as well).

I am against the legalization of pot. It's a drug and it serves no good in my opinion.

At the very least I'd accept it being legalized for medical usage, however, there'd need to be strict regulations on who gets to use it, how it's dispensed and how it's regulated. In CA, practically ANYONE can get a prescription to smoke. That isn't right at all; but to some of you hey, that's okay.

This is why this needs to be a STATE issue and not a federal one and the idiots who claim the federal government can somehow turn a profit from it's legalization have not done the math.

I await the potheads to bash me for my views with their generic insults/talking points.

It's probably only a matter of time, but I don't know why marijuana gets all the press...the revenue potential from amphetamine sales is shown to be much higher according to several studies. In tough economic times, all options should be on the table.

AFAIK, the policy with marijuana in CO will follow the same guidelines as alcohol and cigarettes.

Banning a substance doesn't solve anything but promoting the use of it as we've learned from prohibition.

And no I'm not a pothead.

No. We don't. Trust me.

And for those of you that don't know, October 1, 2012 Maryland changed the maximum penalty of possession of Marijuana based off the amount of grams you possess, which I think most of us (police) are happy about because it lets us utilize a bit more discretion.

I don't think it will be legalized anytime soon, however.
