Considering a job offer in Centerville VA right off of I-66 W. I know that the morning will be okay (drove it a couple of times and going West on 66 is fine), but the afternoon commute on the beltway is hit or miss (I would be leaving at exactly 3:00 on most days). However, about once or twice a month, I will have to stay until 4:00 p.m for meetings. Is the commute worth it? Has anyone done this commute or a commute similar? Your advice is greatly appreciated.

It depends on your job skills and how much in demand they are.
I drove that route for a few days working with another firm. I hated it so much, I would do anything to avoid a commute like that. If you really want the job, you should consider moving closer.

That's a very very bad commute. I had a friend who did it in the reverse direction- lived in Centreville, worked in Silver Spring. He took a closer job the second he found it.

Centerville going to Silver Spring would be a terrible commute because its going with the traffic of the people going to DC.

No, I'm pretty sure it's really bad going either way. I suspect there are a lot of jobs in the Tysons Corner area and people in MD commute back and forth from there. We had to make that drive a few times in the afternoon rush and I honestly couldn't imagine having to do that every day. It was even worse when there was a lot of construction around Tyson's Corner. It's a bit better now, and you will be working in off-peak hours which helps a lot, but it still may be pretty bad. And I-66 is just a huge mystery to me- we could be heading home at 10pm from a friend's house on a weekend and somehow hit monstrous traffic, and then we might be driving somewhere during a typical rush hour and it isn't that bad. Virginia is my Bermuda Triangle.
