Safeway actaully was in Salisbury in the early 90s... I remember my parents shopping there. I used to be in the Clairmont Plaza

The comparison isn't even in the same league...

Wegman's is a supermarket chain, just like Giant. They were originally from western New York. They expanded and expanded so we're having Wegman's around the DC area. Pretty much what Safeway did in the '80s (Safeway was from California).

Whole Food is a specialty store serving a niche market (organic/health customers).

Wegman's by far. No comparison, not even close.

I go to the one in Columbia. Outstanding customer service, clean, great variety, and good prices. Whole Foods can't touch the latter two.

They're not really comparable but being from Buffalo I am so happy to be able to get some of my hometown foods like Bison chip dip and Sahlens hot dogs!

-- Whole Foods isn't a chain that expanded to other regions from where it started?
-- Wegmans has lots of organic items and isn't on the less expensive side as surpermarkets go.

So while they may market themselves slightly differently, it's not really true that they're "not in the same league."

Agree. I'd be more inclined to compare Wegman's to an upscale Sam's club as opposed to a Whole Foods. I wanted to like Wegman's because it's closer but it just doesn't have the organic and locally-sourced food that I can readily find at Whole Foods.

Wegman's is interchangeable with Giant or the other chains. Not with Whole Foods.

I first went to Wegman's for the first time when I worked in Hunt Valley and was put on to the pizza early. I was glad they decided to open up one around the area in Woodmore but am highly disappointed in the d@mn pizza. It doesn't add up I have been to the one in Columbia and it was the same as the pizza I expected. They need to do something about this immediately.

Neither really, Trader Joe's beats them both. If I had to choose, I guess Wegman's for price and selection. Whole Foods has amazing produce, but again too expensive.
